About Toto
The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) as well as bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from a Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hits with the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour established them as a brand all over the world.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It's a change from the ballads of previous albums and features some heavy rock. he has a good point was their first album to go platinum in North America.
In the course of recording the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are financially in trouble. They decide to record a new album and change their name to an entirely different producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a huge tour around the world. After a few weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Toto returned for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise money for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in more than 31 years that all of Toto's original members were on stage together. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

In 2008, a series of lineup changes and a string of disappointing albums led Toto to end their tour for a period of time. Toto returned to touring in 2012 following the release of the album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album marked a return to their best form, and the tour that came with it featured sold-out concerts in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was bolstered by the addition of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, both of whom had returned to the band.
